Project Completion: Stanley, Black & Decker

As mentioned in my last Project Completion post, I’m going to post these now, so that my family and friends, and whomever else cares to know, can get a glimpse at what I do day in and day out at work.  It’s the best I can do anyways.  Trying to explain what I do would just put people to sleep, so I’ll just stick with the finished product. www.SBDShop.ca is an online store built for Stanley, Black & Decker.  They are the parent company that owns the following brands: Stanley Black & ... Closing Off My Margined Positions

I’ve been working on a post about financial advice from the Bible.  One of the concepts I came across that is quite prevalent in the Bible is not to borrow money at interest.  That caused me to take a look at my stock portfolio.  As mentioned in an earlier post, I had bought some stocks on margin, about half of my portfolio.  After examining my portfolio, I realized that many of my stocks were not gaining enough in dividends to offset my interest payments.  Now, with capital gains, I would... A Sale On Wall Street

Prices on the stock market dropped across the board this morning.  The Dow Jones Industrial Average is down about 1%.  Unfortunately, this means most investors are probably doing the exact opposite of what they should be.  When stock prices drop, people panic.  They start selling in fear that it will drop more.  Instead, you should be looking at it the other way.  What if you looked at it like a sale. Now, 1% off might not seem like much of a sale when shopping to buy at Wal-Mart, but when... Click here to read the rest

Project Completion: United Grocers Inc.

UGI is a buying consortium for some of Canada’s top grocery store brands including, but not limited to: Safeway, Longos and Metro.  They currently hold a 34% market share in the food industry in Canada.  Since it’s inception in 1972, UGI has been operating without a website.  This past Wednesday, that changed. My team and I at Plain + Simple had the privilege of building UGI’s corporate site, which was a nice change.  We specialize in corporate E-Commerce sites, so to do a front-facing... Our Journey To Becoming More of a Grace Based Family

I know not everyone who reads this is a Christian, and I imagine that it must be a lot harder to be this kind of parent without the help of the bible to model it to your kids. This started so long ago, probably about 6 years. I think the church we are members of now, has had a big impact on how I think today. The revival of our faith, being part of this church family, has affected so much of our daily living and through that we have grown and our thoughts have changed on how to raise our... Home Remedy For Colds - Garlic Smoothie

GarlicWell, the kids are all sick, and this morning I woke up feeling congested and nose running. I do not want a cold. I don't have time to be sick. We're launching a rather large website at Plain + Simplenext week, and I simple can't afford the time off right now.

My friend Jasmine suggested a cold remedy to me a while back. The first time I tried it, I honestly don't remember if it worked. I do remember that the side effects were worse than any cold.

Calorie Intake Counting: The Problem With Home Cooked Meals

Calorie-Counting-Calorie-IntakeI had meant to write this post weeks ago, but I forgot. Luckily my sister posted an update on Facebook that reminded me. As many of you know, I've been wanting to lose weight for about, well, my entire teenage and adult life. Some years I actually tried to lose weight instead of just wanted to lose weight. One method I try every once in a while is tracking calorie intake. Calorie intake counting has a very simple premise.

Who Are We?

Our Family

Welcome to our blog.  My name is James Meyer, and my wife and I blog about our attempts to apply neo-conservative christian theology to practical daily life.  We are both 31 years old, we've been married we were 20, and our marriage improves daily.  We have 4 kids, 5 years old and under.  We're heavily involved in church life.  I (James) own my own business, but am contracted full time as a software engineer/manager, so I experience an odd mix of self-employed and corporate life. Christina is a stay at home mom, and that is a full time job in and of itself.

This blog is our journey in continuous self improvement and our constant attempt to walk with God daily and follow His will in our lives.

If you have any questions about our experiences, thoughts, or want to contact us for any reason, you can email me (James), or Christina, or contact us on any of the following networks:

Our Church

Living Word Hamilton Seventh Day Adventist Church

Living Word Christian Fellowship is a Seventh-Day Adventist Church located in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada.  We are "conservative" in our theology on biblical principles while being "liberal" in our worship style and church organization.

Our church is one of very few cell-based churches in our denomination and we believe that through small groups (in people's houses) real growth, evangelism and relationship building occurs.  Our weekly worship services (in the church building) are just that, a weekly event to attend to worship God together.
